Ben Caplanis a songwriter, performer and entertainer in the most time-honoured sense of the word. From the moment he walks onto the stage, audiences are enveloped in his infectious spirit and captivating presence. In his latest project, Caplan presents a fresh batch of songs originally composed for Hannah Moscovitch’s musical play “Old Stock: A Refugee Love Story.” This award-winning show had its international debut at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, ran off-Broadway in New York City and was presented as part of the Canada Scene Festival at the National Arts Centre in Ottawa. Showcasing Caplan’s distinctive baritone, the songs from the show feature klezmer-tinged melodies and attitude, exploring themes of immigration, loss, darkness, love, sex, and God.
