Global Shtetl

Where Food, Music, and Diverse Cultures Meet
August 29 to Sept 2
Various locations

Toronto holds a reputation as a global music city and cosmopolitan hub where tourists can sample the cultures and foods of diverse communities from around the world. Ashkenaz’s new tourism experience, Global Shtetl (Global Village), combines music, food and the arts while highlighting Toronto’s rich cultural diversity. The Global Shtetl program is a series of five curated excursions in which participants will enjoy a special meal in one of Toronto’s many unique neighbourhoods, sampling the cuisine of a particular ethno-cultural community whose music or culture will be highlighted within the Festival’s programming. During the meal, participants will be joined by a scholar or festival artist who will perform or give a relevant presentation.
