Brazilian chanteuse Nicole Borger creates fresh interpretations of Yiddish song classics, translating them into Portugese and setting them to a kaleidoscope of Brazilian musical styles. A surprising cross-cutural collision that confirms the durability of good songwriting, and the infectious universal appeal of Brazilian music. She will be joined on stage by an international ensemble featuring Israeli-born, NY-based accordionist Uri Sharlin, Berlin-based bassist Martin Lillich, and three ex-pat Brazilians now living in Canada, Andre Valerio (guitar), Carlos Cardozo (cavaquinho), and Riquinho Fernandes (percussion). Additional surprise guests will join the mix as well.
The evening will begin with an opening set by Toronto’s Tio Chorinho, the only ensemble in Canada dedicated to performing Brazilian choro music. The group will perform music from their recently released CD “Chora Brazil,” paying tribute to the great Brazilian-Jewish mandolinist Jacob do Bandolim.
