Position type:

Full-time, paid 10-week summer internship for a returning student from June-August.

The Ashkenaz Festival, North America’s largest celebration of world class Jewish music and art, is currently seeking a candidate to fill the position of Design/Marketing Intern. The 9th biennial Ashkenaz Festival takes place August 28 to September 3 at Harbourfront Centre and satellite venues in Toronto. Ashkenaz is the largest festival in Harbourfront’s summer season, featuring 75-80 performances and over 200 individual artists from around the world performing on a dozen stages. The festival draws a multicultural audience of over 60,000 people. The Design/Marketing Intern will work closely with the Artistic and Managing Directors, and Outreach and Communications Coordinator on overall communications, promotion, marketing and design-elements for the 2012 Festival.

Responsibilities:

Specific duties will be somewhat tailored to the skills, experience and interests of the Intern. Sample duties may include any of the following, depending on the particular skills/interests of the successful candidate: graphic design for posters, flyers, schedules, program book, ads, etc; distribution of marketing materials for the overall Festival, as well as niche-interest materials; assisting with “street-team” postering and promotional campaigns; creation of social media marketing initiatives; planning and implementing creative promotional campaigns; proofreading and editing various print and web materials; creation and editing of online video promotions; general participation as a member of the Ashkenaz Festival team and assisting with any and all general preparation elements for the 2012 Festival.

Qualifications:

Strong communication skills (both oral & written)
Excellent organizational/time management and problem-solving skills
Strong interpersonal skills
Detail-orientated
Fluency with most or all of Microsoft Office, e-mail, Internet, social media, websites, graphic design and video editing software
Must work well both independently and as part of a team
Must be mature-minded, flexible and comfortable working in a fast-paced, non-corporate environment
Must be returning to school for the fall 2012/spring 2013 academic year
