Beyond the Pale Toronto

Saturday September 1 , 6:00pm - 7:00pm
Brigantine Room

Beyond the Pale is one of Canada’s most innovative and exciting acoustic roots ensembles. Klezmer and Balkan styles serve as the point of departure for the band’s genre-defying sound, which is also shaped by everything from jazz and classical music to bluegrass and reggae. With stellar musicianship, unique songcraft and exuberant energy, Beyond the Pale’s music ranges from a raucous roar to the most intimate and dynamic “chamber-folk.” Celebrating its 20th anniversary in 2018, Beyond the Pale is a seven-time nominee and three-time Canadian Folk Music Award winner, and has toured extensively across Canada, the US, Europe, Australia and Brazil. The band’s latest album, “Ruckus” (Borealis Records, 2017), exhibits “a careful layering of textures that provide the listener with a spacious palette of sound” (Songlines UK), and has been described as “an energetic burst of world music performed by a mature and exciting ensemble” (Klezmershack.com). Beyond the Pale features Aleksandar Gajic (violin), Bret Higgins (bass), Milos Popovic (accordion), Eric Stein (mandolin) and Martin van de Ven (clarinet)
